The Prime Minister has said that the current Plan B measures in England will remain unchanged, despite forecasting that the NHS will be under “considerable” pressure over the next few weeks.

Amid a surge in cases and hospitalisations, Boris Johnson said it is vital that people get their booster vaccinations as soon as possible to avoid the need to introduce further restrictions.

Daily COVID-19 rates hit record highs in England over Christmas and according to recent week on week data coronavirus test positivity rates are at a record high in five of the six boroughs of the Liverpool City Region.

Three Liverpool hospitals have now suspended normal visiting arrangements as coronavirus cases continue to rise in the region.

Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust has introduced the measures at Royal Liverpool, Aintree University Hospital and Broadgreen University Hospital.

Mayor of Liverpool Joanne Anderson and Director of Public Health Matt Ashton have urged people to get vaccinated to protect themselves, others and the NHS.

Director of Public Health, Matt Ashton, said: “Demand for vaccination is very high at the moment so please be patient, but do book an appointment on the national booking system for your vaccine or your booster.”

Prime Minister Boris Johnson said everyone aged over 18 in England will be offered booster jabs and set a new target to give boosters to all adults who want one by the end of the month.

The PM said extra vaccine sites and mobile units would be set up across England, and opening hours extended.
