Despite the record high figures, the UK government has confirmed that no new COVID-19 restrictions will be put in place in England before the new year.
In Wirral, director of public health Julie Webster urged people to get vaccinated to protect themselves and the NHS.
“Getting all three doses will give you the best protection from becoming seriously unwell if you catch COVID-19,” she said.
