Cyclist dies after being hit by a BMW on Formby Bypass

A man in his 70s has died after being hit by a BMW on a major road heading into Formby.
The cyclist was injured during the crash near the junction of the Formby ypass and North End Lane at around 11.05am on Tuesday morning and was sadly pronounced dead at the scene.

Hide AdPolice are appealing for witnesses to the incident and the bypass remains closed in both directions.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and is assisting with enquiries.
Serious collision investigator sergeant Steve Smith said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the gentleman who sadly passed away following the collision.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we are appealing to anyone who was travelling along the Formby bypass, close to the junction of North End Lane, who saw the collision at just after 11am or captured anything significant on their dash cam to contact us.

Hide Ad“The Formby bypass will remain closed for a period of time as our investigation continues and we would urge motorists to find an alternative route.
“We would like to thank people for their patience while this incident is dealt with.”
