There have been plenty of celebrations across Liverpool today, as Year 11 students received their GCSE results.

Students were the first to sit exams for the first time since the pandemic, as the two previous year groups were graded on teacher assessments and predictions.

It was expected that schools would see a drop in high grades, however, The Academy of St Nicholas in Garston were thrilled to receive their best ever GCSE results.

Grades increased across all subject areas particularly grades 7 to 9. Over 30% of students in maths achieved these higher grades. The academy also saw a record number of students achieving grade 9s overall.

Student, Kristina said: “I am overwhelmed with these results. I worked really hard but never believed I could achieve these grades. I am so happy!”

Stephanie said: “I am still not sure what I want to do in the future but these results will give me so many options. I am thrilled. I just want to say a massive thank you to all of the teachers who have helped me achieve these grades!”

Headteacher of The Academy of St Nicholas, Mrs Jeniffer Sing, said: “Our cohort has faced many challenges due to the pandemic, but they have continued to perform amazingly and produce excellent GCSE results. We are thrilled that our results continue to improve – this reflects the incredible amount of work over the past two years to improve the quality of the curriculum. The whole of the academy is extremely proud of what our students have achieved.

“The students have been really looking forward to today and it is a pleasure to see them so joyful after what has been a difficult couple of years.”
