Liverpool University Hospitals Trust cares for 158 COVID-19 patients in hospital

The number of beds occupied by people who tested positive for COVID-19 increased by 48% in the last four weeks.

Liverpool University Hospitals Trust was caring for 158 coronavirus patients in hospital as of Tuesday, figures show.

NHS England data shows the number of people being treated in hospital for COVID-19 by 08:00 on December 28 was up from 100 on the same day the previous week.

The Trust covers the Royal Liverpool University Hospital, Aintree University Hospital and Broadgreen Hospital.

COVID-19 numbers

The number of beds at Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust occupied by people who tested positive for COVID-19 increased by 48% in the last four weeks – 28 days ago, there were 107.

The figures also show that 154 new COVID patients were admitted to trust hospitals in the week to December 26. This was up from 82 in the previous seven days.

Hospital visitor ban

The Liverpool University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust announced on Thursday that normal visiting arrangements have been suspended at their three hospitals as COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the region.

“We will review these arrangements on a regular basis,” they said.

National statistics

Across England there were 9,546 people in hospital with COVID as of December 28, with 758 of them in mechanical ventilation beds.

The number of COVID-19 patients hospitalised nationally increased by 56% in the last four weeks, however the number on mechanical ventilators has decreased by 6%.
