Children across the country have recently begun their new adventures at primary school.
St Helens boasts a number of brilliant schools, and we have compiled a list of those that have received the highest OFSTED ranking, of ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’, up to September 2022.
OFSTED is the regulatory body responsible for visiting schools across the country and grading them on a four-point scale.
At the bottom of the scale is ‘inadequate’, followed by ‘requires improvement’, ‘good’ and ‘outstanding’.
Grades are based on overall effectiveness, quality of education, behaviours and attitudes, personal development, and leadership and management.

5. Holy Cross Catholic Primary School - Good
Published in 2021, the OFSTED report for Holy Cross Catholic Primary School has a good OFSTED reads: "Holy Cross Catholic Primary School is a happy, friendly and welcoming school. Pupils enjoy coming to school each day. They feel safe in school because staff care and look after them well. Pupils said that the school’s mission statement, ‘we care, we share, we value’, is lived out by pupils and staff each day.”

6. Eccleston Mere Primary School - Good
Published in November 2021, the OFSTED report for Eccleston Mere Primary School reads: “Every morning, pupils come through the school gates with smiles on their faces. They want to come to school because they say that their teachers ‘make learning fun’. Pupils say that staff at the school respect them and genuinely care about them. This makes them feel happy and safe."

7. St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School - Good
Published in July 2021, the OFSTED report for St Teresa’s Catholic Primary School reads: “St Teresa’s is a family-oriented school. It provides a nurturing environment for all pupils. Pupils enjoy coming to school. Teachers have high expectations of pupils. Pupils are polite and behave well. They respect people’s differences. Most pupils listen carefully in lessons and work hard. They play happily together at breaktimes and lunchtimes."

8. Sutton Manor Community Primary School - Good
Published in December 2020, the OFSTED report for Sutton Manor Community Primary School reads: "You have an accurate view of the school’s effectiveness. You are passionate about the school’s work but do not try to hide its weaknesses. You and your leadership team have managed a period of turbulence well."
