Two women die after being hit by Audi on Merseyside street

Police are calling for witnesses after two female pedestrians died after being hit by a car in Merseyside on Tuesday afternoon.

Emergency services attended the scene on Lulworth Road, Birkdale, after receiving reports at around 16:35 of a collision involving a white Audi A3 and the two women, who were aged in their 70s and 80s.

Merseyside Police said the women were taken to hospital where they passed away. Their next of kin have been informed.

The driver stopped at the scene and is assisting police with enquiries.

Sergeant Mat Shaw said: “An investigation has been launched into this tragic incident and we are keen to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the collision.

“Similarly, if you were driving in the Lulworth Road area at the time and have any dashcam footage, please review it and get in touch if you see anything. Information you hold could be vital our enquiries.”

Road closures remain in place on Lulworth Road and motorists are advised to seek alternative routes.
