When do schools in Liverpool break up for Christmas?

Families will be looking forward to spending quality time together this Christmas after many of last year’s festivities were cancelled due to the increase of COVID-19 cases and further last minute restrictions.

The end of the autumn school term is fast approaching, but with all the events and chaos of Christmas it can be hard to keep up with dates.

The Christmas holidays usually last around two weeks across the whole of the UK, however dates often vary from council areas.

Most schools in Liverpool are expected to break up for Christmas on Thursday, 23 December, 2021.

The return date for schools is Tuesday, 4 January, 2022.

However, with reports of potential further COVID-19 restrictions making a return in light of the Omicron variant these may change.

COVID-19 and closing schools for Christmas

Face masks were brought back into schools, public transports and shops last month in light of the Omicron variant.

However, government officials have ruled out closing schools early ahead of Christmas.

The PM’s spokesperson stated that the Government will not close schools unless it has ‘absolutely no choice’ but to shut them down.

Education Secretary Nadhim Zahawi reiterated this sentiment in his statement.

He promised to “continue to prioritise children’s and young people’s education and wellbeing, making sure education and childcare settings are as safe as possible and children continue to benefit from classroom teaching”.
