Everton could be set to bring former midfielder Ross Barkley back to Goodison Park in the January transfer window.

The 28-year old left the Toffees in January 2018 for a fee of £15 million but has failed to secure regular game time throughout his four years at Stamford Bridge.

Barkley, who has won 33 caps and scored six goals for the England men’s international side, spent last season on loan at Aston Villa where he made 24 Premier League appearances.

He has been a bit part player in the Chelsea squad since returning and could very well be allowed to leave when the transfer window next month.

Reports coming out today suggest that Everton are keen to bring Ross Barkley back to Goodison Park on loan, four years after he left to join Chelsea for £15 million.

Although his departure from the Merseyside club may have left a bad taste in the mouth of the Evertonians, he would undoubtedly bring quality to Rafa Benitez’s current team.

It also seems likely that Chelsea would be open to the move with Barkley featuring in just five Premier League games this season with only one start.

The midfielder has made 11 appearances in all competitions for the Blues this season but the current situation surrounding Covid-19 regulations in the Premier League does mean that many clubs may be less willing to let their fringe players leave.

SkyBet have Eveton as favourites to sign Barkley in January with a price of 7/2 which suggests a deal is still some way away but well within the realms of possibility.

However, Newcastle United (4/1) may also look to make a move if Barkley was available while Burnley (7/1) and Leeds United (12/1) could also be monitoring the situation.

More transfer news today has continued the speculation that Everton defender Lucas Digne could be on the move to Chelsea in January.

An injury to England international Ben Chilwell has left the Blues looking for cover at left back and Digne may be the player they look at to fill that gap.

The reports suggest that Everton would be unwilling to let the 28-year old French international leave on loan and any move would have to be a permanent one.

Although it hasn’t been suggested yet, there could be a crossover with Everton’s reported interest in Ross Barkley who could make up part of any deal that is to be done.

SkyBet currently have Digne priced at 2/1 to join Chelsea in January which, similarly to the Barkley situation, suggests that a deal is still some way off but well within the realms of possibility.

Newcastle United (6/1), West Ham (7/1), Leicester City (8/1) and Crystal Palace (10/1) make up the market but Chelsea look the most likely destination should the former Barcelona player leave Goodison Park.

Digne has played 17 times in all competitions for Everton this seasons, scoring one goal in the Carabao Cup against Queen’s Park.
