Newcastle United manager Eddie Howe has admitted that several players are doubtful for the visit of Everton on Tuesday evening - including new signing Dan Burn.

Frank Lampard takes charge of his first Premier League game as Toffees boss after overseeing a 3-1 FA Cup victory over Brentford at the weekend.

The visitors will have Ben Godfrey missing after he suffered a hamstring injury in the first half against the Bees.

The defender joins Abdoulaye Doucoure (groin) and Fabian Delph (thigh) on the treatment table, while Dominic Calvert-Lewin is in a race against time to prove his fitness.

Everton have dropped to 16th in the table amid a run of just one league win in just 14 games.

Newcastle sit three places below but a win will see them move within a point of the Blues.

Callum Wilson out long term

The Magpies have injury concerns of their own, though, with top scorer Callum Wilson making slow progress from a calf injury and will be absent.

The striker will be out for the long term.

Howe said: “It’s been slow progress for him since the initial injury.

“He’s been recently on crutches, although I think he’s come off those crutches now and is walking normally, which is a big step, but you can see by that update that it’s quite slow.

“We all wish Callum to come back as quickly as possible, but when he comes back, he’s got to be fit and ready to give his best.

“We’re helping him with that day to day, but I don’t think it’s going to be short term. Hopefully, he can make the last few games of the season and really help us in the key moment.”

Dan Burn doubtful

Meanwhile, Burn - who joined the Magpies on transfer deadline day from Brighton - is doubtful with a toe injury.

Howe is hopeful the centre-back will be available to make his debut, however.

Joelinton (adductor) is back training while Federico Fernández is edging closer to a return but may not be fit enough to be involved.

Paul Dummett is still to train since before the international break and Matt Ritchie is definitely out with a knee problem.
