New formation and two changes made - Everton expected starting XI versus Man City

Frank Lampard be expecting a response after Everton suffered a 2-0 loss at Southampton last weekend.

Everton return to action today and have the unenviable task of welcoming Manchester City to Goodison Park (17.30).

Frank Lampard’s start to life as Toffees manager has been mixed, with two victories and two defeats so far.

But the former Chelsea boss was left unimpressed with his side’s response when going a goal down at Southampton last weekend.

Lampard felt Everton, who are 16th in the Premier League, reverted to type and felt the loss was ‘eye-opening’.

Indeed, the Blues will need to be significantly better if they have any chance of pulling off an upset against the current league leaders.

Man City were defeated 3-2 at home by Tottenham Hotspur and will likely have their tails up as they bid for a response.

Lampard does welcome back two key players for the visit of Pep Guardiola’s side.

But Everton could decide to err on the side of caution with the pair.

Lampard’s also primarily used a 4-4-2 formation in the Goodison hot seat.

That’s something else that he could decide to switch in a bid to inspire an improved performance.

An extra man in midfield against City, who are expected to monopolise possession, could be the tweak needed.
