Everton FC transfer news: The net spend topic is one that raises some interesting questions.

With the international break in full swing, Everton and Liverpool fans have been left wanting after just three games.

For Everton, it may have come at the right time. Another disappointing start has set in motion another gloomy outlook but it is almost a mirror image from the start of last season, so there is hope for an improved campaign when club football returns.

They were charged and found guilty of breaching PSR rules last season and suffered two separate points deductions which almost thrust them into relegation trouble but, when looking at the net spend across the last five years, Everton factor very low in the Premier League standings.

Poor spending has seen the club struggle overall after what was an initial promise when Farhad Moshiri took over control of the club in 2016. There was a lot of money allocated to signing players but many of those deals took the club backwards rather than forwards - and they went from European football to languishing in relegation battles.

Big departures over the last five years have included Amadou Onana (£50m) Moise Kean (£25m) Richarlison (£60m) Antony Gordon (£45m) and Lucas Digne (£25m). While the biggest signings included Ben Godfrey (£25m) Allan (£22m) Amadou Onana (£35m) and Beto (£25m) and it’s clear the club have allowed top players to leave without replacing them accordingly.

Their most recent window saw Iliman Ndiaye, Jake O’Brien and Tim Iroegbunam arrive on permanent transfers and only time will tell how their careers play out - the hope is that it’s better than those that have come before. With all the noise around spending and net spend and transfer totals, we’ve decided to focus on the full net spend list for all 20 teams.
