West Ham drop cryptic Callum Wilson future update amid Everton and Celtic transfer links

Nuno Espirito Santo addressed the future of Callum Wilson after scoring West Ham’s winning goal against Tottenham Hotspur.

Nuno Espirito Santo was coy on the future of Callum Wilson despite being West Ham United’s hero against Tottenham Hotspur.

The striker has been heavily linked with a departure from the London Stadium this month. Wilson signed for the Hammers on a pay-as-you-play deal last summer after leaving Newcastle United. But with the East London outfit signing Pablo and Taty Castellanos for a combined fee of almost £50 million in the January transfer window, there has been speculation that Wilson could leave.

The 33-year-old has been linked with a move to Everton, who are looking at potentially bolstering their centre-forward options, as well as Scottish giants Celtic.

Despite seemingly being surplus to requirements, Wilson came off the bench as a late substitute for West Ham against rivals Tottenham. And in the 93rd minute, he scored to deliver the Hammers a 2-1 triumph and move them five points adrift of safety.

Santo was asked about the future of Wilson after the game. Speaking to BBC Sport, the Portuguese would not commit to whether the nine-cap England international will remain in the capital beyond this month. Santo said: “We are still in the market to bring players and rebalance our squad. Rumours, rumours, rumours. We are doing things properly.

“Every player that is in the building, I give them the day off tomorrow. It is up to us to count on them and support them. They need to help us, they need to help the club.”

Santo was then quizzed about whether West Ham fans feel they can’t let Wilson leave after scoring such an important goal. “And rightly so,” Santo replied before laughing.

Along with Wilson, Everton are interested in signing Youssef En-Nesyri from Fenerbahce. The Toffees are open to a loan deal for the 28-year-old, who will be part of Morocco’s squad that face Senegal in the African Cup of Nations final on Sunday evening.

En-Nesyri is also reportedly attracting interest from Premier League rivals Nottingham Forest and Serie A champions Napoli.
