Darwin Nunez deleted all Liverpool-related content from his Instagram earlier this month.

Darwin Nunez has insisted that he tries to shut out the negativity on social media - but admitted it can affect him.

Nunez has completed his second second at Liverpool after arriving for what could become a club-record of £85 million. Since joining from Benfica in the summer of 2022, he has recorded a total of 33 goals and 17 assists in 93 appearances.

But the striker has struggled to find cast-iron consistency, having been guilty of spurning a plethora of gilt-edged chances while he ended this season out of the Reds' starting line-up.

After a 4-2 victory over Tottenham Hotspur earlier this month, Nunez deleted all of his Liverpool-related photos from his Instagram account. That led to speculation that he could depart Anfield in the summer transfer window, with Barcelona one club linked.

Nunez, speaking to Por la jersey (via ESPN Uruguay), confessed he tried to laugh it off when things don’t go his way on the pitch - and no longer looks at any flak that comes his way.

“From the moment you start playing and until you retire, there will always be someone who will criticize you. I avoid reading those comments,” said Nunez, who has since changed his Instagram display picture of himself, his partner and child all wearing Liverpool kits after Sunday’s 2-0 win over Wolves.

“Before, I did look them a lot and it affected me. Whoever says that those negative comments do not affect them is lying, those negative comments that are directed towards you will always affect you.

“They tell me everything, but I ignore those comments because they are of no use to me. I never look at the negative comments on social media, at least now I'm not looking at anything, not even the good stuff. If a game goes badly for me, I rely on my family .”

"When things go badly for me, I get hot, but I try to laugh with my family and not show my son the anger I have, what happened in the game is already there, it's already happened, and there is always revenge.”

Nunez has been jeered from opposition fans since moving to England. They frequently sing that he is ‘Just a s*** Andy Carroll’ when spurning goalscoring chances.

The former Almeria forward silenced Nottingham Forest supporters in March when he headed home 99th-minute to earn Liverpool a 1-0 victory. And an honest Nunez told that he didn’t understand what the home fans inside the City Ground were chanting at him.

He added: “In that game, the Nottingham fans were singing to me. But I didn't understand anything, thank goodness. I ended up scoring the goal on the hour, and then the coach (Jürgen Klopp) in the locker room said 'screw them'.”
