Liverpool are back in action on Tuesday night when they travel to Norwich City in the Carabao Cup third round (19.45 BST).

Jurgen Klopp is likely to ring the changes from Saturday’s 3-0 victory over Crystal Palace in the Premier League. Mohamed Salah, Virgil van Dijk and Sadio Mane are among those who’re expected to be rested.

It gives those who have been on the periphery so far this season an opportunity to impress their boss.

We take a look at the five players bidding to do just that at Carrow Road.

Curtis Jones

Assistant manager Pep Lijnders confirmed the midfielder will start while conducting pre-match press duties on Monday.

Given the strength of Liverpool's midfield options, Jones has had to be patient so far this season.

But the 20-year-old, who will make his 50th appearance for the Reds at Norwich, has undoubted talent and potential.

With Harvey Elliott out injured with a long-term ankle injury, Jones has a chance to thrust himself into Klopp's attacking-midfield plans.

Joe Gomez

The England international had established himself as Virgil van Dijk's regular centre-back partner before suffering a serious knee injury last November.

After returning to full fitness, Gomez been unable to win his starting berth back from Joel Matip, while £36 million summer signing Ibrahima Konate was handed his debut against Palace.

The former Charlton defender did well in the 3-2 win against AC Milan in the Champions League last week considering it was his first competitive start for 10 months, however.

Now Gomez will be aiming to build on that display and work his way back into Klopp's starting XI.

Nat Phillips

Rather than completing a transfer deadline day move away from Anfield as some expected, the centre-back instead signed a new long-term deal.

But he hasn't played so far this campaign. He's fifth choice behind Van Dijk, Gomez, Matip and Konate, who made his debut against Palace.

Even if it is unlikely he will jump above any of the quartet in the pecking order, Phillips will still want to give a good account of himself and hand Klopp a reminder.

Takumi Minamino

Things haven't gone to plan whatsoever for the Japan international at Liverpool.

Plenty of supporters were excited about Minamino's arrival in January 2020 after giving the Reds the runaround for Red Bull Salzburg in the Champions League only months earlier.

But the forward has yet to make any sort of impact on Merseyside.

In total, Minamino has scored four goals in 31 games and spent the second half of last season on loan at Southampton.

Liverpool perhaps rely on Salah and Mane too much and the burden needs to be eased at time.

Having yet to make an outing this season, Minamino needs to seize his opportunity.

Kaide Gordon

Lijnders talked up the 16-year-old ahead of the game and he could well be in line for a debut.

Gordon joined Liverpool from Derby County for up to £3 million in February.

He trained with the first team throughout pre-season and started the final pre-season friendly of the summer against Osasuna at Anfield.

Although he's a couple of years away from being a regular for the Reds, he can showcase his credentials and how much he is improving.

Gordon didn't play for the under-23s in a 4-0 loss to Leeds United on Sunday, which suggests he'll be involved at Carrow Road in some capacity.
