Here are the key points from the Reds boss’ press conference.

Salah’s contract

Mo Salah’s contract situation is well documented.

The Egyptian’s deal expires in 2023 and there are fears Liverpool could lose him given the rampant goalscoring form he is in.

Klopp was asked if he thinks Salah’s performances make sorting his future easier of harder to solve.

The response was short and gave little away.

Klopp replied: “I don’t know. We shall see.”

Jones concern

Curtis Jones returned from England under-21 duty with a knock and missed Saturday’s 5-0 thrashing of Watford.

Although the midfielder was back training with Liverpool this morning, he won’t travel to Spain.

Klopp’s hopeful Jones will be fit for the trip to Manchester United on Sunday.

He said: “Curtis was only with us warming up. Unfortunately, he’ll be here in Liverpool hopefully to make the final steps to full training.

“He only warmed up and did his stuff then, individual training and we decided to leave him here to continue that.

“Hopefully, he is ready for United.”

Firmino importance

Roberto Firmino will make his 300th Liverpool appearance against Ateltico.

The Brazilian bagged a hat-trick at Watford but has fallen slightly down the pecking order this season due to Diogo Jota’s bright start.

However, Klopp believes Firmino remains just as crucial as ever.

“Bobby was massive for our development of the team and is obviously a key player,” said Klopp.

“He’s the connector off all the different pieces on the pitch very often.

“He was injured, unfortunately didn’t have a proper pre-season and then got injured which is not too hopeful. The three goals from the weekend will help him a lot.

“I’m never shy of putting praise on Bobby Firmino and his importance. He is our false nine and is a very, very important player.”
