Liverpool could reportedly ‘appease’ Mo Salah demands with big name striker swoop

Mo Salah is eager for Liverpool to sign some high-profile fresh talent, with Borussia Dortmund’s Erling Haaland seemingly one player who he wants to see arrive at the club.

According to Sky Germany, talks over a new deal for the Kop icon are progressing well, but as well as the promise of a wage increase, one of the key factors that could convince him to put pen to paper is the assurance that the Reds will look to bring in some more world class acquisitions.

In particular, Haaland is namechecked as one potential option who could “appease” Salah, and Sky are confident that Jurgen Klopp’s men have a decent chance of signing the prodigious Norwegian.

Liverpool are named alongside PSG, Real Madrid, and Manchester City as his most likely destinations if and when he leaves the Bundesliga.

More encouragingly still, Sky also report that the Reds are intent on making a move for a new striker at the end of the season.

What are the bookies saying?

Sky might be convinced that Liverpool are in the running to sign Haaland, but it would appear that the bookies are less so.

At the time of writing, odds aggregator Oddschecker have the Reds at a very distant 50/1 to land the 21-year-old.

That rank outsider status puts them behind the likes of Manchester United and Barcelona (both 33/1), Chelsea and Real Madrid (16/1), and even Bayern Munich (12/1).

Leading the race are PSG and Manchester City, with the French club currently priced at 6/1 and Pep Guardiola’s men trailing a little way behind at 9/1.

How likely are Liverpool to seal the deal?

Competition for Haaland’s signature is likely to be red hot when the time comes for him to leave Dortmund.

There are few centre-forwards in global football who can boast his natural talent and all-round physicality, and the fact that he is still only 21 is nothing short of frightening.

The general consensus is that the Norwegian will be on the move sooner rather than later, with his agent, Mino Raiola, suggesting recently that there is a ‘big chance’ he could leave Germany next summer.

If that is the case, it would line up conveniently with Sky’s claim that Liverpool will enter the market for a new striker at around the same time.

There will be considerable obstacles to overcome for any deal to go ahead, of course - particularly in a financial sense.

Haaland has the potential to be one of the finest players in world football, and that kind of talent doesn’t come cheap.

In recent seasons, Liverpool have seemingly been reluctant to spend overly big on fresh faces, but if Sky’s report is accurate, and if Anfield chiefs believe they could be killing to birds with one stone by bringing in a target in a priority position and pleasing star man Salah, perhaps they could be convinced to dust off their chequebook for a huge swoop.

The chances still seem slim, but this is likely to be a transfer saga with plenty of twists and turns left in it yet.
