The centre-back was due to spend the 2021/22 campaign on loan at Swansea City, however he was recently recalled after struggling for regular action in Wales.

Meanwhile, Liverpool’s Nat Phillips has been heavily linked with a move away from Anfield this month and has attracted interest from a number of Premier League clubs.

However, it is Sheffield United that are reportedly eyeing the defensive duo before deadline day, according to the Daily Mail.

The report claims the Blades have been monitoring the pair, with Paul Heckingbottom keen to bolster his defence this month.

The Championship club’s pursuit of Williams seems a viable option having already spent the first half of the campaign in the second tier.

However, a move for Phillips seems more unlikely, with the 24-year-old set to remain in the Premier League.

The likes of West Ham, Watford and Newcastle United are all thought to be keen on the defender.

Sheffield United already have Liverpool’s Ben Davies on loan at the club, making four league appearances so far this season.

The former Preston North End defender has recently lined up alongside John Egan and Chris Basham in a back three, with Heckingbottom lacking in alternatives to the trio.

A move for Williams could certainly benefit the Blades given his Premier League experience, while fans can expect Phillips to stay in the top tier.
