Liverpool are sweating on the fitness of Diogo Jota ahead of Saturday’s Premier League visit of Norwich City.

The striker was forced off in the Reds’ 2-0 Champions League last-16 first-leg victory over Inter Milan last night.

Jota, 25, suffered ankle ligament damage and was substituted at half-time.

Roberto Firmino came on in the Portuguese’s place and opened the scoring in the 75th minute.

Mo Salah then doubled the lead with seven minutes remaining to put Liverpool firmly in the driving seat ahead of the return clash at Anfield next month.

The Reds welcome Norwich to Merseyside on Saturday as they aim to keep the pressure on Manchester City in the Premier League title race.

Jurgen Klopp’s side then host Leeds United next Wednesday before they face Chelsea in the Carabao Cup final at Wembley on Sunday 27 February.

Klopp confirmed that Jota, who has netted17 goals this season and is Liverpool’s second top scorer, will be assessed today.

He said: “Diogo had to go off with something around the ankle ligament. We shall see. He wanted to carry on. It was an adult performance.

“[It was a] twisted ankle, swollen, obviously not a good sign but we’ll check it tomorrow. We need further assessment.”
