Liverpool made ‘informal contact’ with Mohommed Kudus in the summer transfer window.

That’s according to The Athletic, with the Ajax attacking midfielder now keen on a Premier League move when the window opens again next month.

Kudus has been one of the stars of the 2022 World Cup despite Ghana crashing out at the group stage. He scored two goals in Ghana’s 3-2 defeat of South Korea.

The 22-year-old carried on his rich form he’s displayed at Ajax this season. He’s scored 10 goals and recorded two assists in 21 appearances, with one of his efforts coming in the Dutch side’s 2-1 loss to Liverpool in the Champions League.

Heading into the January transfer window, Kudus is reportedly eyed by clubs from the Premier League, Bundesliga and Ligue 1. A move to England is said to be his first choice.

But Kudus could have completed a move to the Premier League last summer. Everton agreed terms on transfer deadline day but Ajax blocked the move having already sold Antony, Lisandro Martinez (Manchester United), Ryan Gravenberch (Bayern Munich) and Sebastien Haller (Borussia Dortmund).

And it is claimed that there was informal contact from Liverpool although a deal was not pursued.

Will Kudus join Liverpool?

A potential move remains to be seen. Kudus has enhanced his reputation this season and, having wanted to leave Ajax in the summer, he may still have the same stance.

Centre-midfield will be Liverpool’s priority if Jurgen Klopp does dip into the market. That’s a position that Kudus can play, although the vast majority of his outings this term have come in an advanced role.

The Reds are well-stocked in the attacking third, although they have injury issues. Luis Diaz suffered a setback in his recovery from a knee injury and is out until early March.

And Diogo Jota remains sidelined with a calf issue and is said to not be back until early February.
