Thiago was due to start the game but pulled out during the warm-up with a hamstring issue - and was reduced to tears on the bench before kick-off.

Klopp revealed the Spain international won’t be risked against Norwich - and may not be ready for the clash with West Ham on Saturday.

Thiago could be fit for next week’s Champions League last-16 second-leg clash against Inter Milan.

The Anfield boss said: “He’s not crying anymore. It was a very emotional moment.

“I watched the whole warm-up then come in and he was on the table and tells me he feels something, hamstring.

“We had to make a decision he cannot start. In the moment, when you are that close to playing a final - the one player who’s won as much silverware as the whole squad together showing this emotion.

“I didn’t like he didn’t feel that good but the desire to play in the final, I liked a lot.

“He’s fine again but not fit again. The weekend, not sure. Maybe Milan, after that definitely.”
