Liverpool are reportedly preparing to compete with Tottenham Hotspur for another European star this summer.

The Reds are considering a move to sign Roma midfielder Nicolo Zaniolo, according to Calciomercato.

The news will alert Spurs, who are thought to also be tracking the 22-year-old.

Zaniolo’s future with Roma is uncertain, with the Serie A club reportedly open to selling the midfielder.

The Italy international has been a regular for Roma since his €4.5 million move in 2018 and has been a consistent part of Jose Mourinho’s set-up this season - making 20 league appearances and scoring twice.

Despite Zaniolo’s importance to the Serie A giants, Calciomercato have previously claimed they would sell him for £33.5 million.

The Italian’s price tag is certainly affordable for both Liverpool and Tottenham, however it is unclear who is leading the race for his signature.

The race between the two Premier League clubs will be all too familiar after Jurgen Klopp’s side beat Tottenham to the signing of Luis Diaz last month.

Liverpool had shown interest in the Colombian throughout January, but it wasn’t until Spurs launched a £46 million bid for Diaz that the Reds made a move of their own.

The battle is likely to continue for months ahead of the summer transfer window, but whoever wins the race could have a bargain on their hands.
