Background

According to Spanish publication Sport, Xavi has already discussed a potential swoop for Thiago with Barcelona president Joan Laporta.

Since arriving at Anfield from Bayern Munich for £20 million in the summer of 2020, the 30-year-old has struggled to build momentum because of injuries.

To date, he has played only 38 times for the Reds, scoring one goal.

Thiago came through the youth ranks at Barca and netted 11 goals in 101 appearances. He won four La Liga titles and the Champions League with the Spanish giants.

However, he left for Bayern in 2013 where he became one of the world’s best midfielders.

At the Allianz Arena, Thiago claimed a staggering seven Bundesliga titles, four German cups and the Champions League in 2020.

Sport claims he’s open to returning to Barca, although he is under contract at Anfield until the summer of 2024.
