The Liverpool manager has only failed to win one trophy during his time at the club.

Liverpool’s journey under Jurgen Klopp has been sensational from the day he announced himself as ‘The Happy One’ in his first ever interview in England.

He took a faltering club and turned them into Premier League and Champions League winners in five seasons spending less than the rest of their top six rivals during that time, transforming Liverpool back into a genuine leading club in Europe.

But while their success has seen them win every available trophy possible, there’s only one accolade that has eluded Klopp, and he has the chance to right that wrong this season in the Europa League.

Of course, failing to qualify for the Champions League last season was a disaster, but it has opened the door for them to avenge their defeat to Sevilla in Klopp’s first season - a game in which they led through Daniel Sturridge.

It was disappointment on that particular night and now, some eight seasons later, they are the outright favourites to secure the trophy, but could they could a chance to go full circle with Sevilla?

As it stands, they are two wins from two and are set to face Toulouse at Anfield on Thursday and they are already poised to qualify from the group as winners given the disparity between their squad and the rest of the group.

In terms of the Spanish side, they lost out 2-1 to Arsenal last night in the Champions League group stages, leaving them sat in third place in their group. If they finish in that position, they will be demoted to the Europa League knockout stages, a tournament they’ve won the title seven times since 2006.

Labelled as ‘Europa League specialists’ some Liverpool fans are hoping they get the chance to see Klopp’s journey come full circle by facing off against the Spanish side this year.

Grouped with PSV and Lens, the French side currently sit three points ahead of them and where they finish will depend on their return fixtures with those sides, as they are likely to face defeat at the Emirates next time out.

One fan tweeted following Sevilla’s loss last night: ‘Sevilla’s progression to the Europa League final against Liverpool continues apace.’

While another said: ‘Quite literally the only thing that would stop us winning the Europa League.’

And one fan was simply terrified at the prospect of facing them: ‘Please. Please, don’t. Please.’

Obviously, the opposition in the final is unlikely to be Sevilla as it stands and it doesn’t really matter who they face, but it would certainly a brilliant coincidence if it is.

But if anyone can make it there, it’s the Spanish side who have this incredible love affair with the competition and if they do, it would be an incredible chance for Klopp’s side to take revenge some eight years later.
