Nat Phillips makes frank Liverpool exit admission amid West Ham and Newcastle links

Nat Phillips has admitted he would be keen to depart Liverpool if a ‘good opportunity’ arises.

The Reds defender is down the centre-back pecking order at Anfield behind Virgil van Dijk, Joel Matip, summer signing Ibrahima Konate and Joe Gomez.

Despite recently signing a new three-year contract, Phillips has made just three appearances this season - with not one arriving in the Premier League.

It’s led to Phillips being heavily linked with a move away from Liverpool as the January transfer window approaches, with West Ham and Newcastle reportedly two potential suitors.

And the 24-year-old conceded he is prepared to exit the Reds for more game time elsewhere.

Speaking to Sky Sports, Phillips said: “At this moment in time, it’s clear that, as things have been going, it’s unlikely I’m going to be playing loads of games for Liverpool.

“So if an opportunity arises where I get the chance to do that somewhere else, it suits everyone, and it’s a really good opportunity then it’s something I’d be interested in.

“It’s been tough because the level of competition at centre-half at Liverpool is really fierce. I’m completely understanding of that.

“Myself and the manager agree that the best thing for me and my career is to try to get as many games as possible.”

How much could Liverpool net for Phillips?

According to the Evening Standard, Liverpool are looking for around £10 million for Phillips.

The Reds are only willing to sanction a permanent departure, though, and are not interested in a loan.

West Ham are looking for reinforcements in central defence following long-term injuries to Angelo Ogbonna and Kurt Zouma.

Meanwhile, Newcastle will want to strengthen significantly in January as they bid to retain their Premier League status.
