Everton manager Sean Dyche was left frustrated by the implementation of VAR on Sunday afternoon as his side were beaten 3-0 by Manchester United at Goodison Park. The Toffees conceded a penalty early in the second half but only after Anthony Martial had been booked for simulation following a challenge from Ashley Young. However, VAR intervened to recommend an on-field check with the yellow card reversed and penalty awarded which Marcus Rashford scored.

That came either side of a stunning Alejandro Garnacho bicycle kick and a Martial goal. Dyche said after: “The VAR thing this year, and I’m a big fan, it’s been all over the place. It just seems to be mayhem all the time. He books the lad for diving and then comes back and looks at it for three minutes to make a decision. It’s not just about that, but that doesn’t help of course."

It was a weekend of Liverpool clubs v Manchester sides as on Saturday afternoon Jurgen Klopp's Reds played out a 1-1 draw with Manchester City. VAR did not get involved too much in that fixture, only to check if there had been a foul on Alisson Becker before Ruben Dias finished from close range in the second half before having his goal immediately ruled out on the field, with Stockley Park supporting the decision.
