The former Manchester United and Arsenal striker worked with Arne Slot at Feyenoord.

Robin van Persie has tipped Arne Slot to be a success at Liverpool.

Slot has officially been appointed at the Reds’ new boss as he takes the reins from Jurgen Klopp. The Dutchman departed his role at Feyenoord - where he won the Eredivisie title and KNVB Cup - to move to Anfield.

There is pressure on Slot to deliver as he fills the void of Klopp, who returned Liverpool to the pinnacle of European football by claiming seven major trophies.

The 45-year-old is someone relatively unheralded on these shores. But van Persie is someone who knows what Slot is capable of. The former Arsenal and Manchester United striker recently served as Feyenoord’s under-18s coach before taking the top job at SC Heerenveen.

And he believes that Slot has the capabilities to follow in Klopp’s footsteps with aplomb.

Speaking to ESPN NL (via Voetbal Nieuws), he said: “I think very well. How he wants to play is in line with Klopp’s style of play and what they are used to there. I expect them to do very well.

"Liverpool is one of the nicer clubs in England. I have been able to play for two other very nice clubs. Slot has already been able to practice well at Feyenoord in that rhythm. But there (England) it goes very hard and fast for 11 to 11.5 months a year. It is a very nice, new opportunity for him. I believe it will go very well."

Slot will officially take the reins at Liverpool on 1 June. He’ll begin working with the player not competing at this summer’s respective European Championship and Copa America tournaments when pre-season training commences in the first week of July.
