'Tend to take' - Injury expert predicts how long Liverpool will be without Alexander Isak as surgery confirmed
How long will Alexander Isak be injured for? Liverpool injury update on the striker.
Liverpool have confirmed that Alexander Isak has had an operation for a broken leg.
The striker suffered his injury in last Saturday’s 2-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur. Isak sustained his blow when opening the scoring in the 56th minute, having come off the bench at half-time. After successfully shooting, he was taken out by a challenge from Spurs defender Micky van de Ven. Isak needed several minutes of treatment before he could not continue.
The Sweden international, bought for a British record fee of £125 million in the summer transfer window, now faces a period on the sidelines. A Liverpool statement said: “Alexander Isak today successfully underwent surgery on the injury he sustained on Saturday.
“The Liverpool striker was injured in a challenge in the process of scoring the opening goal against Tottenham Hotspur and had to be substituted. After diagnosis, an operation was completed today on an ankle injury that included a fibula fracture. Isak's rehabilitation will now continue at the AXA Training Centre, with no timeframe yet placed on his return.”
According to the popular social media account @physioscout, which provides football injury analysis, it is likely that Isak will spend between 2-3 months on the treatment table. A post on X said: “Timeline is uncertain, but reports are stating he’ll be out for a “few months”. More likely in the 2-3 month range I’d say, as opposed to anything more than that.
“Fractured fibula’s tend to take 6-10 weeks with surgery, but any major syndesmosis damage would complicate recovery to 10-12 weeks after surgery. Unlikely tibia was involved, but as mentioned, that would extend recovery time.”
Isak has had a frustrating period since his joined Liverpool from Newcastle United. He arrived on summer transfer deadline day well short of fitness, having trained alone throughout the pre-season period. The 26-year-old, who scored 22 Premier League goals last season, did not go on the Magpies’ tour of Asia, and was omitted from training up their return.
Isak also picked up a groin injury in October, which kept him on the sidelines for a month. And after scoring his second league goal since his record-breaking move to Anfield, he is set to be unavailable for a sustained period.
