Nunez netted in the 49th minute with a great header - but should have been on target moments before half-time when he hit the post from six yards.

Robertson revealed that the summer signing from Benfica was frustrated in the dressing room at the interval.

The Scotland international wasn’t sure Nunez understood his message - but predicted he would assist a goal for Nunez in the second period. That he did with Robertson’s corner being met by the Uruguay international.

Robertson told BT Sport: “Darwin was in at half-time really angry at himself, disappointed he missed that chance. I sat next to him in the changing room, I don’t know if he understood a word I said but I said: ‘I’ll put a cross on your head and you’ll score, no problem!’

“Maybe we need to say that more often! Obviously, a two-goal cushion is always dangerous but it’s always nice and we followed it up, fantastic goal by Harv [Elliott] then we were always in control, could start making changes and could rest a couple of people. The younger lads come on and did excellent as well.

“Three-nil at this place, a really tugh place, 3-0 and a clean sheet which is so important for us. We’re just happy we’re through now into the last 16.”
