Formby action group look the part after opticians’ hi-vis vest donation

An action group in Formby has thanked their local opticians for donating personalised hi-vis vests to wear during their events.

Specsavers Formby has partnered with local community group Rage Against Rubbish, who educate visitors about issues across the town, including littering and environmental damage, illegal parking, and anti-social behaviour.

One of their main activities includes protecting Formby beach, where they hand out rubbish bags to visitors throughout the summer to ensure it is safe for residents and local wildlife. They do this by sharing the message “whatever you take to the beach, you bring back from the beach”.

To support the group during this activity, the management team at Specsavers has paid for bespoke sponsored hi-vis vests for them to wear – giving the group more visibility and a unified look when working with tourists.

In total, 35 vests were donated at a cost of £290, with a representative from the group collecting them from the store.

Steve Kyffin, joint founder and chairman of Rage Against Rubbish, says: ‘I was chatting to Zetun at my routine eye appointment and saying this year we wanted to increase our presence and that we were looking for someone local to sponsor our hi-vis vests.

‘Without hesitation she offered to help, resulting in Specsavers Formby paying for 35 branded hi-vis vests.

‘It is fantastic to have a local business supporting our efforts and this year we will be highly visible and looking the part thanks to Specsavers Formby.’

Zetun Arif, ophthalmic director at Specsavers Formby, says: ‘We were delighted to step up and support Rage Against Rubbish with some hi-vis vest donations. We see the valuable work they do in our community and when Steve said he needed some support from a local business, it was clear we had to get involved and support them.

‘With these new hi-vis vests they’ll be safe in low-visibility weather and also stand out to tourists to raise awareness of their campaign.’
