Ofsted provides schools across the country with rankings, ranging from ‘inadequate’ to ‘outstanding’. While many secondary schools across Merseyside are rated as ‘good’, only a small number have been awarded the top mark.
Here, in alphabetical order, are all the Merseyside secondary schools currently rated outstanding by Ofsted. Please note, some schools featured in this list have not been inspected for a number of years.
Published in February 2015, the Ofsted report for The Belvedere Academy states: “Teaching is of a high quality. Teachers have high expectations of all students. 6. Carmel College - St Helens
Published in May 2019, the Ofsted report for Carmel College reads: “The Catholic mission of the college, to promote excellence, opportunity, challenge and support for all students in a caring environment, infuses the organisation. 7. Kilgarth School - Wirral
Published in April 2019, the Ofsted report for Kilgarth School reads: “ Following my visit to the school on 12 March 2019 with Ian Hardman, Her Majesty’s Inspector, I write on behalf of Her Majesty’s Chief Inspector of Education, Children’s Services and Skills to report the inspection findings. The visit was the first short inspection carried out since Kilgarth School was judged to be outstanding in March 2015. This school continues to be outstanding. 8. Lakeside School - Liverpool
Published in December 2019, the Ofsted report for Lakeside School states: “Pupils love coming to Lakeside School. Their attendance is excellent and they are proud to be Lakeside pupils. Pupils said that staff are kind and caring and always make them feel safe. Bullying is very rare. Pupils know that they can talk to staff if they are worried, secure in the knowledge that any concerns will be dealt with immediately.” Additional inspections took place in 2022 and 2023.
