Pupils across the country will receive their GCSE results next week, marking the end of the secondary school journey for some, as they prepare to begin college in just a few weeks.
Other children are gearing up to begin secondary school in September, with many joining ‘big schools’ across Liverpool. But which local schools have impressed Ofsted inspectors?
Below is a list of all the Liverpool secondary schools to be rated as ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ by inspectors*, in alphabetical order. Did your child’s school make the list?

Published in April 2019, the Ofsted report for Bank View High School reads: “Leaders check diligently on the quality of teaching. They use a variety of different approaches to ensure that they have very detailed and up-to-date knowledge of the standard of teaching throughout the school. The systems used to monitor teaching ensure that teachers receive support and challenge to improve their practice. The least- experienced teachers continue to require this support."
6. Bellerive FCJ Catholic College - Good
Published in November 2021, the Ofsted report for Bellerive FCJ Catholic College reads: “
Teachers choose appropriate activities to help pupils to learn and remember more. They check pupils’ knowledge and understanding effectively. Teachers use assessment information skilfully to address pupils’ misconceptions and to help pupils move on to new learning. Consequently, pupils, including those with SEND, progress well through the curriculum. Leaders’ identification of pupils with SEND is accurate. 7. Broughton Hall Catholic High School - Good
Published in December 2022, the Ofsted report for Broughton Hall Catholic High School states: “Pupils, and students in the sixth form, are proud to be part of Broughton Hall Catholic High School. Pupils enjoy strong relationships with their teachers and pastoral staff. Pupils feel happy and safe. They know who to speak to if things go wrong. Pupils behave well in lessons and during social times. They respond well to leaders’ high expectations of behaviour. 8. Calderstones School - Good
Published in March 2023, the Ofsted report for Calderstones School reads: “Diversity is celebrated at this welcoming school. Pupils, including students in the sixth form, are proud to be part of a community where everyone is respected. Pupils told inspectors that ‘you can always be yourself here’.
