CAMRA said: “The Scotch Piper is a whitewashed, thatched, medieval Grade II*-listed building. It takes its name from an incident in 1745 when a Highland piper, injured in the Jacobite rebellion, took refuge here. The doorway opens into a traditional bar with a servery on the left. A passage to the right leads to two further rooms, the middle one with simple old woodwork. The end room, added later, is less rustic.”
10. Frank Hornby, Eastway, Maghull
CAMRA said: “A Wetherspoon establishment named after local man Frank Hornby, inventor of the Hornby train set. The bar is spacious and light inside, with a decked area outside at the front. A varied selection of guest ales is available, some from local breweries.”
