Dozens of treasured Liverpool restaurants and bars have closed in the last year, as the cost-of-living crisis continues to impact a wide range of businesses, including popular chains and much loved independents.
Despite being just six weeks into 2025, several popular restaurants in and around Liverpool have already announced their closures this year, including Almost Famous, The Italian Club Fish and Café du Quartier.
The recent closures add to an already extensive list of businesses we lost in 2024, with the likes of Crazy Pedro’s and The Florist saying goodbye to the city - despite appearing to be as popular as ever.

5. The Italian Club Fish, Bold Street
The Italian Club Fish served customers on Bold Street for more than 15 years, and stood proudly as Liverpool’s only restaurant with a sole focus on seafood. It announced its closure on January 15, 2025. | The Italian Club Fish

6. Viva Brazil, Liverpool
Viva Brazil was one of Liverpool’s most-loved premier eateries, amassing an excellent Google review rating of 4.4 out of five stars from more than 2,200 reviews. However, the award-winning steakhouse now closed its doors. Announcing the closure on January 4, 2025, a spokesperson for Viva Brazil said: “2025 will be the start of something new for Castle Street. We can confirm that Viva Brazil Liverpool is now closed. Watch this space for the next big restaurant announcement for Liverpool.” It will now be turned into El Gato Negro. | Viva Brazil

7. Burnt Truffle, Wirral
Gary Usher’s Burnt Truffle has officially closed ‘for good’ after serving the Wirral for ten years. The Heswall restaurant opened in 2015 and quickly received rave reviews from critics and two prestigious AA rosettes. In a video shared on X on January 8, 2025, Elite Bistros owner Gary Usher said: “I need to share some news with you and unfortunately it’s not great news. 8. The Lock and Key, Duke Street
The Lock and Key restaurant and bar closed in January 2025 to make way for a new venture. In a statement, a spokesperson for the site said: "We’ll be taking a short break for a few weeks as of 5th January, as we prepare to relaunch with a brand-new, exciting venture that we can’t wait to share with you all. Rest assured, our hotel will remain open as usual, and we’ll continue to provide the same warm hospitality you know and love." | Rightmove
