Former Merseyside Police staff member charged with 11 criminal offences

Charges include two counts of possession of a Class A drug.

A former member of staff at Merseyside Police has been charged with 11 criminal offences, following a directed Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) investigation.

It is alleged that Daniel Cardus, 26, accessed police systems between April 2020 and July 2022 in order to obtain information so that it could be passed to people linked to organised crime.

The former Merseyside Police worker is also accused of being in possession of cocaine on two occasions (in June 2020 and July 2022), perverting the course of justice, and three counts of unauthorised access to computer material.

It is alleged that Cardus also dishonestly made false representations to the Department for Work and Pensions and intended to make a gain by obtaining universal credit payments.

He scheduled to appear at Manchester Magistrates’ Court tomorrow (Friday, January 16), following an investigation by the IOPC’s Anti-Corruption Unit and Merseyside Police’s Anti-Corruption Unit.
