📰 A St Helens man has been jailed for life for the murder of 33-year-old Lee Andrew after he stabbed him in the neck and left him for dead.

Thomas Brown, 42, of North Road, St Helens, was found guilty of murder at Liverpool Crown Court after the jury took just two hours of deliberation to arrive at their verdict.

Detective Superintendent, Simon Vaughan, who led the murder investigation said: “Brown claimed that he was acting in self-defence, but the jury saw through his lies.”

📰 Energy price hikes will “be the cause of people’s deaths”, a Liverpool councillor has warned.

Cllr Gerard Woodhouse, who is also a community centre chief in Everton, said the rise in the energy price cap will add to the struggles residents have faced as a result of the coronavirus pandemic.

The Labour member for County Ward said he already sees families struggling to pay for heating and the consequences of putting them under further financial strain could be fatal.

“There are going to be deaths as a result of this, it’s just unbelievable,” Cllr Woodhouse warned.

📰 Michael Gove has joined regional leaders at a levelling up conference, the Convention of the North.

The secretary of state for Levelling Up, Housing and Communities is the keynote speaker for At The Spine in Liverpool.

The conference has been organised by the Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, NP11 and Culture Liverpool.
