David Lloyd Leisure has revealed plans to create a huge health, wellness and fitness club at one of the country’s biggest regeneration projects.

The leading wellness group has submitted proposals to Wirral Council for a six acre club in Peel Waters’ Bidston Dock site, right in the heart of the Wirral Waters development.

If approved, the proposed club will create up to 100 new jobs upon completion and offer a wide range of facilities, including three weather-protected tennis courts, the biggest padel facility on the Wirral, heated indoor and outdoor swimming pools, an indoor spa, outdoor spa garden, a gym and sports halls.

David Lloyd Leisure has made a commitment to become carbon neutral by 2030 and says the new club will incorporate the latest in sustainability technology to ensure it operates ‘as efficiently as possible’.

In addition to the anticipated 100 jobs once the club is open, the construction phase is expected to generate around 60 jobs, offering further employment opportunities to the local community.

“David Lloyd’s commitment to sustainability and the jobs they will create for local people also make them an ideal development partner. We have long term plans to create a leisure-led, mixed-use destination in the Bidston area, and this is just the start.”

Stuart Caswell, New Clubs Acquisition Director at David Lloyd Leisure added: “We are delighted to be part of the future for Wirral Waters. Our plan is to construct a state-of-the-art health and wellness club that not only enhances the area and creates a range of new jobs and opportunities for the local community, but also reflects the needs of people living in the area”.
