"The memories will stick in my mind forever”: Beloved 19th century Everton pub to hold sold-out farewell party
Watch our video interview with Everton pub The Winslow manager Dave Bond ahead of today’s farewell party.
The manager of a beloved Everton pub which will hold a sold-out farewell party on Saturday January 24 has said the memories ‘will stick in his mind forever’.
Everton fans and ex-players will gather at The Winslow on Saturday to bid farewell to the pub - which Dave Bond has managed since 2014.
Bond said The Winslow - located across the road from Goodison Park - lost its customer base when the men’s team moved to Hill Dickinson Stadium in August 2025.

Dave Bond, originally from County Clare in Ireland, said: “I locked in the 24th which is this Saturday, not anticipating the demand would be so high because I could have done it for two, three days easy, the demand has been off the charts. And I think with all the media interest in the last few days, it just shows what The Winslow means to Evertonians. I can't describe it enough.
“It's hard to beat the last game at Goodison, the Southampton game. When I came down the street in my car at 7am and I saw a hundred people waiting to get in, I knew we were in for a crazy day.
“There was other great days, the Bournemouth game, the Crystal Palace game, and we’ve had some great Q&A evenings here with some ex players. And on a personal note, Kevin Campbell, who is no longer with us, he did a couple here, and he was fantastic Kevin, great, great man. So they stick in my mind forever those days.
“The success we've had here over the years, I mean, apart from my wonderful staff and everyone else attached to the business, is the fans, the loyal customers and fan base. I've been running posts for a very, very long time and I'm not just saying it because I'm an Evertonian but our customers and our fan base are second to none and I think that's shown now in the demand for tickets.”
The Winslow was built in 1886 and predates Goodison Park (1892) by six years. Bond said Everton’s record goal-scorer Dixie Dean made the pub his local on retirement and two ex-players - James Borthwick and Norman Greenhalgh - were licensees.
Bond plans to open a new Everton venue called Dixie's on Dickson Street near Hill Dickinson Stadium. Bond said he will try and do the “very, very hard task” of replicating The Winslow there.
