💷 The UK is to give £75m of emergency aid to the Afghan people to provide life-saving food, emergency health services, and shelter, water, and hygiene services. It follows discussions among G7 foreign ministers in Liverpool.

Foreign Secretary Liz Truss said: “The UK is providing vital humanitarian assistance in Afghanistan this winter. The funds announced today will save lives, protect women and girls and support stability in the region. We are determined to do all we can for the people of Afghanistan.”

No funding will go directly to the Taliban.

🦠 Coronavirus cases are on the up in Wirral. In the seven days up to 7 December, there were 1,360 COVID-19 cases in Wirral, at a rate of 420 per 100,000.

It is unknown if the Omicron variant is driving this at this stage.

🚌 Liverpool City Council is taking its budget consultation on the road to engage with residents face-to-face about options to save £34 million.

The council is hitting the streets on a six-day roadshow, to talk to residents about the budget proposals in person, giving people without easy online access a chance to voice their opinions and feed in their views.

The roadshow events are being held at the following venues:

  • Monday, December 13 – 12-3pm at Old Swan Tesco
  • Tuesday, December 14 – 12-3pm at Breck Road Everton (near Asda)
  • Wednesday, December 15 – 12-3pm at Tesco Park Road
  • Thursday, December 16 – 12-3pm at Belle Vale Shopping Centre (to be confirmed)
  • Friday, December 17 – 12-3pm at Speke Shopping Centre
  • Saturday, December 18 – 12-3pm Williamson Square, Liverpool City Centre
