'Everything must go' - Liverpool city centre Poundland to close as signs spotted on Lord Street
A Liverpool city centre discount store is set to close, with signs outside the shop reading “everything must go”.
Earlier this month, Poundland confirmed that 14 of its outlets will close by early February 2026, adding to the 19 stores already scheduled to shut.
The closures are part of the retailer’s wider turnaround strategy under new ownership by Gordon Brothers, who acquired the business for just £1 in June. The move helped the company avoid administration in August after a High Court-approved restructuring plan was secured.

Poundland confirmed a Liverpool store would be among the closures, and it now appears that this will be the Lord Street site. The shop only opened two years ago, replacing the former Home Bargains branch.
Signs in the shop’s windows can now be seen, stating: “This store only, closing down” and “everything must go”.
A spokesperson for Poundland said there had been no plans to close the store, but added: “Sadly we’ve been unable to agree terms with the landlord to enable us to keep trading there.”
The Lord Street store will close on January 15.

Darren MacDonald, Poundland UK country manager, acknowledged the impact of the looming closures on local communities, saying: “We recognise how disappointing it is when we leave a store. The additional markdowns will help us leave locations we’re leaving with pride.”
He added that the company looked forward to welcoming customers in “the hundreds of Poundland stores we’ll continue to operate right across the UK.”
