Prime Minister, Boris Johnson, suffered humiliation before Prime Minister’s Questions on Wednesday afternoon when Conservative MP, Christian Wakeford, defected to the Labour party.

Mr. Wakeford is the MP for Bury South and made history when he was elected as a Conservative in 2019 with a small majority of 42 votes.

In a letter to the prime minister, Mr. Wakeford, explained his decision to leave the Conservative and join Labour was down to Boris Johnson.

“You [Boris Johnson] and the Conservative Party as a whole have shown themselves incapable of offering the leadership and government this country deserves.”

Mr. Wakeford added: “I have concluded that the policies of the Conservative government that you lead are doing nothing to help the people of my constituency and indeed are only making the struggles they face on a daily basis worse.”

Boris Johnson has been under pressure for several weeks concerning alleged parties held at Downing Street during the Covid-19 lockdowns.

Mr. Johnson’s time as prime minister hangs by thread and some sources suggest his own backbench MPs are set to move against him and force him out of No. 10 Downing Street.
