School closures Liverpool: which schools are closed today due to Storm Eunice - how to check your school

Storm Eunice has arrived in Liverpool with weather warnings being issued across the region.

Merseyside is set to be hit by high-speed winds, tumultuous rainfall and there will even be some snow across the country.

The Met Office’s amber weather warning came into force in Liverpool from 03.00 this morning.

It is set to last until 21.00 on Friday evening, with warnings that Storm Eunice could cause “significant disruption”.

The Met Office said: “There is a good chance that flying debris could result in a danger to life.

“Damage to buildings and homes is likely, with roofs blown off and power lines brought down.

“Roads, bridges and railway lines are likely to close, with delays and cancellations to bus, train, ferry services and flights.”

School closures in Liverpool and Merseyside

Schools in the region have been impacted due to Storm Eunice.

Prenton High School, in Wirral, has shut its building for today, with learning taking place virtually.

A statement on the school’s Twitter said: “We’ve taken the decision to close the school building tomorrow due to safety concerns relating to the forecast of 85mph winds.

“Teaching WILL continue through MS Teams following students’ usual timetables. Thank you for your support. See you online tomorrow #TeamPrenton#Staysafe.”

Meanwhile, Knowsley Council has suspended school crossing patrols today.

Halewood C Of E Primary School wrote on Twitter: “Due to high winds associated with Storm Eunice, Knowsley Council has taken the difficult decision to suspend School Crossing Patrols on Friday 18 Feb.

“Parents/carers are asked to ensure their children get to and from school safely. Please take care out and about tomorrow.”

Sefton Council has closed Botanic Gardens, Hesketh Park, Moorside Park, Derby Park and Victoria Park and “a safety assessment will be carried out at each park prior to a decision to reopen”.

The council has also closed Marine Drive in Southport from Fairway to Weld Road between the hours of 10.00 and 15.00.
