Atletico Madrid considering January move for Everton defender

Everton could lose one of their most consistent players in recent years.

According to Fichajes, Atletico Madrid are considering an approach for Everton defender Lucas Digne in the January transfer window.

The ex-Barcelona left-back has been one of the Toffees’ better players since his arrival in 2018, bagging seven assists in each of the previous two Premier League campaigns.

However, it has been rumoured that Digne has fallen out with Everton boss Rafa Benitez and was left out of the starting line-up for their win over Arsenal at the weekend.

Atletico Madrid could look to take advantage of the potential dispute between the pair as they hope to bolster their left-back slot.

Renan Lodi is currently Diego Simeone’s only option in that position and bringing Digne back to Spain could be a main priority once the transfer window opens.

It is unclear whether the 28-year-old would be keen on a move to Madrid, however Everton will certainly demand a substantial fee considering he is under contract until 2025.

It has also been reported that the La Liga champions have their sights set on Yerry Mina too, however prising both defenders away from Goodison Park in January may be a bit too much to ask.

Atletico Madrid have also been linked with moves for Arsenal striker Alexandre Lacazette, as well as Manchester United’s Edinson Cavani.
