The visitors are looking for just a second victory in 15 league games, having dropped to 16th in the table.

The Magpies, meanwhile, are 19th and are firmly in a relegation battle.

Here are the key talking points from Lampard’s pre-match press conference.

Godfrey injury latest

Ben Godfrey left Goodison Park on crutches on Saturday after limping off in the first half with a hamstring injury.

The defender will be unavailable for the trip to Newcastle and could be out for up to five weeks.

Lampard said: “Ben came back from his scan this morning and will be a 4-5 week injury, we hope without any issued.

“Doucoure is still 3-4 weeks, Fabian Delph is 4-5 weeks away to give you all the rundowns.”

Dominic Calvert-Lewin was absent for the Brentford game.

Lampard had been hopeful the striker would be available for the Newcastle clash.

That remains the case, with Calvert-Lewin set to travel to the north east.

He said: “Dominic is in the squad, he has been training for the last few days.

“With a player like Dominic, when you get offered a job like this, you get excited about the challenge on a whole then go through the squad and get excited about working with players.

“I’ve gone up against Dominic, watched him from the outside, like his attitude, his demeanor without knowing him and found him great in the week I’ve been here.

“As a player, with the talent and attributes he has, I love.

“Do we have to be a bit careful with him? Maybe. I haven’t seen the injury, I know he was out for a while, come back and had a little setback.

“I’ll manage that but as a player himself, I’m really excited to work with him.”

They’ve both set to be included in Lampard’s squad and he hasn’t ruled out debuts for either.

He said: “They will be in the squad. I was pleased they could see a performance they saw the other day and the way we want to go.

“They have been great in training, integrated on the training pitch and off it as lads.

“It is important we are a tight unit. It’s great to have them both in and they’re in the squad.”
