'Really positive news' - Ex-Liverpool striker hails Everton takeover in classy message
Everton takeover: The Friedkin group have agreed a deal to buy Everton from Farhad Moshiri.
A former Liverpool striker has hailed the latest takeover update for Everton and sent the club a classy message on social media.

Everton confirmed that the Freidkin Group has reached a new agreement to complete a takeover earlier today. The American firm, who are headed by Dan Friedkin have returned after ending a purchase in July during a period of exclusivity.
Despite John Textor having exclusivity to complete a deal for the club and having expressed his desire to take over the club, the Friedkin group has agreed a deal. The transaction is subject to approval from the Premier League, FA and Financial Conduct Authority, although it is unlikely to be a problem.
With an estimated net worth of $6.4 billion, he sits in the top 500 wealthiest of individuals globally. He acquired Roma in 2020 and been highly influential in helping the club return to Italian prominence. Plus, the fact he had to deal with re-establishing success on the field, while sorting out finances and stadium issues will be perfect experience for a potential Everton venture.
Taking to X, former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore gave his well wishes to a club he described as a ‘special club’. “There are a handful of clubs who English football historians would say underpin the essence of what makes English football special. Everton Football Club is one of them.”
He posted another message, which read; ‘Best wishes to Everton and Evertonians , sincerely hope there are brighter days ahead for you. Really positive news.’
An Everton statement said: “Blue Heaven Holdings and The Friedkin Group confirm that they have reached agreement over the terms of the sale of Blue Heaven Holdings’ majority stake in Everton Football Club. The transaction is subject to regulatory approval, including from the Premier League, the Football Association, and the Financial Conduct Authority.”
While a spokesperson for The Friedkin Group said: "We are pleased to have reached an agreement to become custodians of this iconic football club. We are focused on securing the necessary approvals to complete the transaction. We look forward to providing stability to the club, and sharing our vision for its future, including the completion of the new Everton Stadium at Bramley-Moore Dock."
