Storm Eunice: will Southampton vs Everton be postponed? Are trains to Southampton cancelled amid red warning?

Storm Eunice is wreaking havoc ahead of Everton’s trip to Southampton tomorrow.

The Hampshire city has been included in a Met Office red weather warning - meaning there is a real threat to life from strong winds.

The city is set to face winds of up to 100mph today.

The fallout of may affect and disrupt Toffees fans making the long trip to the south coast.

The weather warning remains at amber in Liverpool and the north west, with gusts of up to 80-90mph predicted in coastal areas and travel disruption already rife.

Will Southampton vs Everton be on?

As it stands, Everton’s trip to Southampton is on - and looks set to remain so.

The storm is likely to bring some rain on the south-coast, but it will be nothing of the sort that will impact the St Mary’s turf.

Meanwhile, the red weather warning is due to be lifted by the end of today. It will be replaced by a milder yellow warning throughout Saturday with wind gusts of up to 50mph.

Travel problems for Everton fans

Storm Eunice has caused problems on the country’s rail system, with high winds blowing trees and other debris on to lines.

As a result, trains are having to travel at slower speeds.

There is a nationwide recommendation to avoid travel via rail today, with all major companies running reduced timetables at reduced speeds and further disruption likely.

Trains running from Liverpool Lime Street to Southampton Central today are estimated to take up to seven hours and most include four changeovers.

As it stands, trains are running every hour (07.47, 08.47, 09.47) from Liverpool Lime Street to Southampton Central on Saturday morning, with journey times estimated at 4 hours 44 minutes including two changes.

Fans travelling from Merseyside may want to to set off early to make it to the south coast in plenty of time.

The latest possible train will be 09.47, which is expected to get into Southampton at 13.33, with St Mary’s a 15-20 minute walk away.

What can Everton fans do if they’ve booked a train ticket?

Anyone who has booked a ticket for Friday has been urged not to travel.

Avanti West Coast has put measures in place to help those who have already booked a ticket.

The company is offering an admin-fee free refund or the chance to travel on Saturday morning trains with your original ticket.

Southern Rail has advised that they will be running severely reduced timetables and trains will be limited to 50mph.

It’s said that customers may not be able to complete their journey today and no replacement services will be available.

Southern too have offered either a fee-free refund or the option to travel on Saturday.

Southwestern Railway has also advised that services across the entire network could be delayed or cancelled due to the storm and that running services will be significantly slower than usual.

It has offered the options of a refund or travel on Saturday.
