Wharton was absent for the Eagles as they drew 0-0 against West Ham United on Monday night. The midfielder sustained an issue during Palace’s 2-1 loss to Fiorentina in the Europa Conference League second leg. Glasner’s side won the tie 4-1 on aggregate and face Shakhtar Donetsk in the last four.

Palace travel to Liverpool on Saturday. The Eagles are 13th in the Premier League table and their priority for the rest of the season is likely their European ambitions. Liverpool, meanwhile, are in pursuit of Champions League qualification as they sit fifth in the table and seven points clear of Chelsea.

Wharton is Palace’s talisman and will be fit to be involved at Anfield, although there is a chance he could be rested for the semi-final first leg against Shakhtar on Thursday 30 April.

Speaking after the West Ham stalemate, Glasner said: “He should be back [for Liverpool away on Saturday] – it was mostly a precaution more or less, [he showed] a little bit of clinical symptoms. I expect him back on Thursday in training when we start to prepare for the Liverpool game and he should be available.”

Palace have already beaten Liverpool three times this season. They won the Community Shield on penalties after a 2-2 draw at Wembley, earned a 2-1 victory in the Premier League meeting at Selhurst Park and won 3-0 against the Reds in the Carabao Cup fourth round at Anfield.

While Europa Conference League glory is the Eagles’ chief aim, Glasner insists his side will aim to defeat Liverpool for a fourth time. He said: “Like always, [I expect] a great atmosphere at Anfield, great stadium, and they are fighting for the Champions League. We're also in a good position in the league, and we want to show a great performance there.

“We think we know how they play, but also they had a great win in the Merseyside derby, so that's why they will be highly motivated. And again, also credit to our players today, that they could match the West Ham motivation [with the Hammers fighting relegation] today. It was a completely different approach to the game, and so I know, I trust these boys, that we will be motivated and giving our best.

“And I trust our fans, who had a great atmosphere here today at Selhurst, and I trust them that they will go to Anfield and support the team, and then hopefully we can come back with three points.”
