Diego Jota could be back for Liverpool in a few weeks, according to Jurgen Klopp.

The forward has endured an injury-hit season so far. He missed the majority of pre-season with a hamstring injury before being stretchered off with a calf problem in the defeat of Manchester City in October. As a result, Jota has made just eight appearances and his presence has been missed.

To compound Liverpool’s misery, Luis Diaz has been absent since the start of October with a knee issue and won’t be back until March. And Darwin Nunez is also a doubt for tonight’s FA Cup third-round replay at Wolves, having missed the 3-0 loss at Brighton in the Premier League last weekend.

Klopp will be desperate to get Jota back as the Reds aim to climb the table in the second half of the season. They currently sit a disappointing ninth and have a battle to finish in the Champions League places.

And Klopp is confident that the Portugal international will make an impact when he returns to fitness and looks ‘really good’ in his rehab.

The Liverpool manager said: “Diogo is an extremely football smart and football-wise will be back (to his best this season).

“I don’t know exactly how long but he looks really good. He’s out there on the pitch doing a lot of stuff already. Another few weeks?”

Asked if Jota could be available for next month’s Champions League last-16 clash against Real Madrid, Klopp replied: “From my point of view, yes but I don’t know.”
