'Done' - Liverpool & Tottenham Hotspur 'target' signs long-term deal at Premier League rivals
The transfer window is open for business with some Premier League cubs already getting some early deals over the line
The transfer window has opened for Premier League clubs as a busy summer of trading gets underway in England and across Europe. Liverpool are back in the Champions League and entering a new era under Arne Slot, who has been selected to replace Jurgen Klopp at Anfield.

As well as changes to the coaching staff, there is set to be a minor overhaul in the playing squad with some new signings expected as the Reds aim to challenge for the Premier League title alongside Manchester City and Arsenal. One area the club will bolster is at centre-back with Joel Matip departing at the end of last season following the conclusion of his contract.
One of the defenders linked with a move to Merseyside was Lloyd Kelly, who was available on a free transfer as he opted against signing a new contract with Bournemouth. The 25-year-old was also wanted by Tottenham Hotspur and Newcastle United. It is the Magpies who have won the race to sign him, as they confirmed he would officially join the club on July 1 after penning a long-term contract at St James’ Park.
The defender was signed by Newcastle head coach Eddie Howe for Bournemouth back in 2019 and has opted to link up with his old mentor again.
Kelly said of his decision: “It's amazing to be coming here. I know how big the club is and how much it means to all the fans, and I just want to hit the ground running and get to work. It’s a big move for myself and the family - of course being down south is a bit different - but I think the city of Newcastle is amazing, with the contrast between city life and the countryside.
“It wasn't a hard decision for me to come here. Working with the gaffer previously, I know what he wants from his players and how he wants his players to play, and I think with what I can bring it just makes sense. I just can't wait to get started.”
Howe added: “I’m really pleased to have secured Lloyd’s signature. He’s a player who’s proven himself at Premier League level and I’m certain he’ll be a great addition as we prepare for the new season.
“Lloyd is a player I’ve admired since the early stages of his career. Alongside his undoubted defensive ability, he brings versatility and leadership qualities that I believe will make him a great fit within our squad and somebody our supporters will quickly take to.
“He has plenty of Premier League experience already under his belt, yet Lloyd’s at an age where he can still develop. He has a lot of potential and I’m really looking forward to working with him again.”
Liverpool have already moved onto other targets with highly-rated Lille defender Leny Yoro being ‘actively pursued’ by the Reds, according to The Athletic. The 18-year-old is a man in demand, however. Real Madrid and Manchester United are also keen on his signature, with reports the Frenchman prefers a move to the Spanish capital to join the 15-time Champions League winners.
