The French forward is set to see his contract at Paris Saint-Germain expire in the summer, and has stalled on previous offers from the club.

That hesitation has prompted interest from further afield, with Real Madrid having seen multiple bids rejected in 2021.

While Madrid have been heavy favourites to land his signature, Liverpool have also been linked with a move for the 23-year-old - who cost PSG a world record transfer fee when he joined the club from Monaco.

But potential suitors look to have been dealt a blow, with fresh reports from France suggesting that Mbappe could yet put pen to paper on a new deal at Parc Des Princes.

While there was an expectation that the forward would see out his contract and subsequently join Real Madrid, Le Parisien now claim that he could instead stay in the French capital with PSG.

When quizzed on his future last year, Mbappe told Amazon Prime: “I don’t know what I will do.

“It is not an easy [decision] to make. But, either way, I’ll be playing for a big club in 2023.

“At first I was disappointed [not to leave]. But, I am not playing in the third division, I am at a club that wants to win the Champions League.

“I am Parisian, I have my family here and I feel good.

“I have always said that, I just wanted to discover something else.”
